Tarot Card of the Night
Farewell to the energy of The Chariot… Ruled by the Moon in Cancer – our homely nature where we nourish our intuition and soak in the wisdom of our ancestors while listening to the call of our Higher Self. It is our internal battle with our shadow and our light. It’s about being seen for who we are and believing in more than what has defined us in the past. It’s about us taking self-responsibility for our actions as we take the hypothetical reins of our lives and become aware of our actions and how they affect our relationships and the world around us. With Cancerian energy as our guide, we find home inside of us, where it’s always been. We get comfortable in the uncomfortable and we sit with it. When we can sit within and not need to fix, this is where we meet ourselves with love. This is the deeper work where we understand that the ebbs and flows of life are not to be controlled but rather to become aware of, and how we are responding in each moment, and in turn replace the reins with awareness.
I wanted to share a message that I received a few months back while meditating before sleep. This year I have dedicated myself to working more fully with my Higher Self, her name is Shine and my Guide, James. And this night I was guided to get up and fetch a tarot deck, the sun and moon Tarot by Vanessa Decort. Shine guided me to shuffle with the lights out and turn one card up, then put the pile on the bedside table, and leave it overnight. I was told that this card would guide me into sleep and then deeper into dreams. And so, I did, and I’ve been doing it every night since and I feel like I’m sleeping deeper than I’ve ever slept before and having the most profound dreams.
The archetypes that are present in the Tarot bring our truest expression into our awareness as we sleep and I believe, is a powerful way to gift ourselves with messages from our deeper knowing of who we truly are. If we’re not able to see our shadow here in our eyes-open life, then our dreams are the perfect place to swim and flows in the allowing. Yes, it may be uncomfortable, and it may be scary but sometimes these sorts of emotional responses are what’s necessary to get our attention. And it’s in the silence of morning when we are most present to receive the messages.
Other times our dreams are familiar and create a sense of déjà vu. I feel like this is our inner matrix cleaning out any glitches that we may have created along the way. I’ll remember the night forever when I woke at 2.12am one morning to an earthquake, then when morning showed me the card, it was the Tower. It did make me laugh.
The practice of shadow awareness is not only a gift to self, but also a gift to those around us. I’ve shared this with friends, and they are also pulling a card a night. It’s been so interesting hearing about their insights. One friend said that they are sleeping so much better, another is learning more about her cards than she ever thought possible. Another friend said that she’s just enjoying waking up to see her card and thus makes her morning start with curiosity and creating a nicer way to start the day.
I’ve also started to ask animals and people who have passed to come through into the card that I pull. With no expectations or wanting, just for them to express a message. It’s always beautiful.
Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. - Carl Jung
So, when you wake, pick up your card, and lay with it. Journal as quickly as you can, don’t overthink it, just write down your dream. Or even write dot points about the highlights, just get as much down as you can. I keep a pencil and pad next to my bed so that I can write upside down and scribble as fast as I can.
As I’ve been doing this and researching the meaning of dreams, naturally the algorithm catches on and starts flooding my feed with “This Jungian Life” on YouTube (highly recommend) where they discuss the philosophy of Jung and do dream analysis, also different podcasts that share insights turn up. I also have friends saying that they are also researching their dreams. So, it’s not just me…Strangely enough (or not so strange) the algorithm clicks into the point where I dreamt about WWI and me being a protector of a particular person in my dream and then WWI coming up on my feed… This then leads to the natural algo-rhythm of the universe sending me people who are sharing their dreams in readings and. The unseen, being seen.
If you have a Tarot deck (or even an oracle deck), take it to bed with you and turn the lights out. As you settle into bed, shuffle, and you might want to say something like… ‘tonight I’m taking you (this card) to bed, I’ll see you in my dreams. Or, “---- please visit me in my dreams, I’ll see your message in the morning - I love you”.
It’s a beautiful way to wake up and connect with purpose. And a beautiful way to welcome in 2024 the year of Strength. Where walking a solitary path enables us all to see our inner light and share it with the world.
Love you.
