Planetary Decans in the Minor Arcana with Renée Gee
Renée Gee will be presenting via Zoom a detailed journey through the Planetary Decans in the Minor Arcana around the Astrological Wheel. By deep diving into each Minor Arcana card, we can align messaging for a reading based on the energy behind the planet and offer insight into the meaning of each card.
Modern Astrology includes all 10 planets and although this can be attributed to the Tarot in many ways, is has been widely attributed to the connections of the Major Arcana cards first and foremost.
Ancient and traditional ruler ships address the 7 classical planets and are akin to the Minor Arcana as taught and practiced per The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Please note the Tree of life is related in this presentation, but we will only touch on this as a brief reference to the understanding of planetary hours as to why the planets are arranged in this order.
This presentation will be focusing on the Ancient Traditional decans as they relate in the long run, to the structure of the Hermetic Order, Qabalah and the Tree of Life. Modern astrology also does not have an exacting 10 degree structure due to the introduction of 3 newer planets. Therein lies the difference and simplification in the modern iteration.
In Hellenistic astrology, a decan is the subdivision of a sign. In order to give fuller interpretation to the zodiac signs, ancient astrologers subdivided each sign into periods of approximately ten days. Also known as Chaldean Planetary Hours.
These divisions are known as the “decans” or “decantes” and cover modifications of individual traits, attributed to minor planetary influences, which temper or blend with the ruling influence of the period. The ten-day spans are somewhat arbitrary in order to allow for the five (and sometimes six) extra days in the year beyond the 360 days required for the 36 decans.
In modern times, however, the assignment of decans has changed considerably. Each sign is allocated a triplicity, consisting of three of the four classical elements air, water, earth or fire, and is therefore subdivided into three equal parts of 10 degrees each; these parts are referred to as decans or decanates.
This presentation will also be interactive as there will be worksheets provided for journaling to offer a reflection on the questions posed within each zodiac sign.
